Learning Catalyst Cohort summer sessions a success

The 2011-2012 Learning Catalyst Cohort completed the second segment on August 1, 2, 3 and 4 at the Neighborhood House/Wellstone Center. The first sessions that took place in June had strong responses from participants. For the second part of the cohort, twelve school leadership teams participated in training, coaching and support to look specifically at their SCIP and design learning structures and plans for the adults in the school that will advance the goals of the SCIP. Two charter school principals and leadership teams also participated.

Principals and their leadership teams participating in the Learning Catalyst Cohort will come together for the third segment which is scheduled for January 12, 2012.

The Learning Catalyst Cohort is designed to support school leaders in all positions in building a culture and structures for adult learning that will support improvements in student learning. During the 2011-12 school year, customized coaching will be available for principals and leadership teams as they implement their plans.  After participating in activities in June and August, each individual and each leadership team will have a plan for how to advance work in one identified area of the SCIP; feel a sense of accomplishment and a sense of readiness for the start-up of the 2011-12 school year; have identified individual and team goals for growth over the course of the upcoming year; and have a plan for utilization of the coaching and support available to them through the Office of Leadership Development during 2011-12.

2011 State of the City Address

"If there is a distinct characteristic to our work on education, I believe it lies in the acceptance of responsibility rather than the imposition of blame.  We do not point our fingers at teachers and say “you’re to blame.”  We do not abandon our families and tell them “it’s your fault.”  Rather, we gather together and ask “what is it going to take to get the job done.”  We know that there are many parts to this education puzzle.
