We have a variety of offerings. Some of those are targeted at Principals, whether relative newcomers or veterans. But we also have offerings for Assistant Principals, Superintendency Members, Program Coordinators, Site Council Chairs, Teacher-Leaders, Custodial Leaders … anyone in a position that calls for leadership skills.

Competencies? Clusters? How do I find out more, maybe even get some insight on where I might have some opportunities for growth and development?
One of the surest ways to determine your best leadership development opportunities is to undergo the 360°-feedback process. This service is being rolled out across the district over several years. The opportunity to get involved is enhanced with support of your boss. As an interim measure, consider attending the self-assessment workshop we offer once a month.

    Do I need a coach?
Even champions need a coach. Click here to find out more.

Does the Office only work with people who are "in trouble"?
Certainly not! From our mission statement above, you can see that we are interested in nurturing the development of positional leadership skills throughout the District.

I've heard something about the Leadership Model. What's that about?
The Leadership Model was crafted by a team of people in 2000. It has always formed the basis of the Leadership Institute (for Aspiring Principals). Now we are trying to spread the word. The model includes 28 ‘competencies’ collected into seven ‘clusters.’ It serves as the basis for how we have organized our various offerings.

What about people who don't actually work in a school setting?
We have offerings for anyone whose job involves positional leadership. That includes staff positions at the central office.

What is the Core Curriculum Schedule?
We will continue to offer classes in the spring of 2004 and the fall of 2004. Look at our calendar of events coming up.

What’s the connection between better leadership and better student achievement?
We believe that every child deserves the benefit of exceptional leadership. There is a broad research base linking excellent leadership at the building level, and improved student achievement.

Who pays for these services if I choose to get involved?
At this time, the Office of Leadership Development is paying for services.

Who provides the services? Is it all expensive outside consultants?
The services depend on several sources. We try to be responsible about what we can support directly with our own staff. We call on other internal District resources in many cases, such as for coaching and workshops. However, in some cases we do have to depend on outside consultants. We only do that, however, when (a) we need to and (b) we can work with people in whom we have trust and confidence.
